Northampton Bach Choir joins forces with the Bach Camerata for a
programme of French choral and orchestral music, bringing together
three distinctive works by Maurice Duruflé, Gabriel Fauré and
Francis Poulenc. Together, these works trace a journey from quiet devotion to intensity and finally to peace, inviting reflection, stillness, and hope. At the heart of the concert is Duruflé’s Requiem, performed with soloists Rhonda Browne, alto, and William Swinnerton, baritone. Alongside it will be Fauré’s beautiful Cantique de Jean Racine, adding another of the French choral repertoire’s most cherished works to the programme. The concert will also feature Poulenc’s dramatic Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani, with Jem Lowther as organ soloist, bringing the full power and colour of the organ together with strings and timpani. The performance will be conducted by Simon Toyne, leading Northampton Bach Choir, Bach Camerata and the evening’s distinguished soloists in a programme that moves from the intimacy and serenity of Fauré to the rich textures of Duruflé and the striking theatricality of Poulenc.
