The Northampton Bach Choir has been at the forefront of music-making in Northamptonshire for over eighty years, and has established a reputation for the quality and diversity of its performances. We are the largest chorus in the region, with 120 or so members aged from eighteen to eighty, and from all walks of life. We are currently recruiting in all voices, and would be delighted to hear from people who would like to join us at one of our Open Rehearsals – taster evenings – on either Monday 6 or Monday 13 September. Our Covid-19 risk assessments are tried and tested, and over the past year we have learned to adapt to the evolving situation, and will continue to do so as necessary.

Choir rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7:45pm to 9:45pm, at the Northampton High School, NN4 6UU (just off junction 15 of the M1). The School has ample parking, comfortable seating and easy access.

The choir performs four or five concerts a year, including at least one with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, usually in the Derngate. Our most recent events have included performances of Mozart Requiem, Berlioz Grande Messe des morts, and Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, a singing day with John Rutter, and visits to sing Choral Evensong at Westminster Abbey and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. We have released four commercial CD recordings in recent years, and tour throughout the UK and Europe, with plans for more recordings and tours in the coming few years.

The coming season’s programme is perfect for choral singers of any level of experience - from those who haven’t sung for years to those who already sing regularly - now is the ideal time to join! We begin the season with Handel’s Messiah accompanied by period orchestra, then at Christmas sing festive favourites accompanied by brass band. In 2022 we begin with Karl Jenkins The Armed Man with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, before performing Orff’s Carmina Burana, and a Last Night of the Proms style concert with full orchestra marking Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We also have visits to Peterborough and St Edmundsbury Cathedrals to sing Choral Evensong.

We would love to hear from any singers who are interested in joining us. Our taster sessions – open rehearsals – are on Monday 6 and Monday 13 September, and if you like it (we’re sure you will) auditions (friendly and informal!) are held shortly afterwards. You are more than welcome just to turn up, but it is hugely helpful if you let us know you are coming so that we can ensure you are warmly welcomed and that we have music ready for you. If you are interested, please contact our membership secretary, Crawford Craig,  or by telephone on (01604) 740401.
