Be Merry! Our new CD – Launched!

27 October 2014

Next Monday, 3 November 2014, our third CD recording, Be Merry! will be launched. This recording was made in conjunction with the Choirs of All Saints’ Northampton, and marks both choirs strong associations with living composers of North America, and pianist Stephen Meakins – former Organ Scholar of All Saints who has for seven years been our répétiteur. The disc was recorded over three days in April of this year, and Steve, Gary and Pippa from Regent Records have been hard at work ever since mastering the disc and preparing the booklet and publicity material. This is an unashamedly popular disc, with carols you might hear in church given a fresh twist – not least O come, all ye faithful and Silent Night - and carols you are less likely to hear in church – Winter Wonderland and Have yourself a merry little Christmas!

Composer and Arranger Dan Forrest

Our Recording Venue - St Mary's Wellingborough

One of our most popular musicians, Dan Forrest, features on no fewer than five tracks as arranger and composer. The choir recorded Dan Forrest’s arrangement of Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets, O God, beyond all praising, on their second CD I was glad! and gave the European première of his extraordinary choral work in paradisum … Between them and the Choirs of All Saints they have given the European première of no fewer than six of Dan’s carols, including the five featured on this recording.

Tenors and Basses recording Carol of Joy

This recording reflects a great deal of hard work on the part of our Musical Director, who painstakingly researched the programme for the recording, and made scrupulous markings in our copies to ensure every consonant was sounded unanimously, and every phrase directed towards a common goal. We are grateful to him, and to Stephen Meakins, who also contributed an extraordinary arrangement of Jingle Bells for solo piano!

The First Disc is Pressed!

The CD is available by credit or debit card direct from the choir – we only have a limited number of discs pressed, and they will make perfect Christmas presents – buy them while you still can!
