Say Cheese! AGM & Awards

5 October 2015

Tonight over one hundred members of the choir attended our Annual General Meeting with the presentation of the Member's Award.

This year's Annual General Meeting was tinged with sadness, following the untimely passing of two of our long-serving members: Mary Legge, who also served on the committee for many years, and Anne Robson, who died in post as our Treasurer. We are most grateful to former Treasurer Martin Lander, for stepping into the very difficult position of reconstructing the accounts from Anne's careful records, and enabling accounts to be put before the membership at the AGM.

At the AGM the committee for the 2015/16 season was appointed, and retiring committee members thanked for their service, and reports were made by the Chairman, Treasurer, and Musical Director. Discussion took place in the Member's Forum about such diverse topics as the potential for joint concerts outside the Town, and adjusting the rehearsal times, and the Musical Director outlined his proposals for a new system of auditions for new members, and appraisals for current members.

Mary's Market Shot

Thanks were offered to Jane Oliver who has for the last twenty-six years been the Voice Part Representative for the alto section (amongst many other things, the VPR keeps the "register" for both rehearsals and concerts, to ensure we know that everyone has attended sufficient rehearsals, and that we have the right number of chairs on stage for concerts!). We also presented the Member's Award to Mary Montague for her sterling work providing photographic support for all our events, and for creating our large portfolio of "local" images (see Mary's Market Shot for an example!) - a staggering number of hours over the last year, to ensure that we have an eye-catching website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and that we have interesting images for our news articles in the local press. Thanks were offered to her Husband, Peter, for his support in this work, and indeed to Ajit Negandhi who works alongside Mary (and indeed photographed the AGM, so that Mary could be - reluctantly! - photographed herself).

After the AGM we had a splendid spread of cheese and wine, so that our remaining 45 minutes of rehearsals were well-oiled and light-hearted!!!
